The Colts decided to give Andrew Luck the biggest contract in NFL history, which just goes to show why the Patriots will still be the top of the AFC for a long time to come.

If anyone was wondering why the Patriots are constantly in AFC championship games look no further than boneheaded reasons like this. Andrew Luck was given $140m with $87m guaranteed. How ridiculous. No player in any sport is worth that kind of money, especially in a sport where there is a salary cap. I’m actually happy the Colts did this, mainly because I hate the Irsay’s and what they did to Baltimore when they sneaked out of town in the middle of the night, and their role in the nonsense that is Deflategate. The who organization can implode for all I care, but that’s a different story.

Andrew Luck isn’t worth that kind of money, no player is worth $100m, no player. In 3 years he’ll have to renegotiate his contract because the team will need cap room to pay other players, so why give that money at all anyway? I actually read an article  that tried to argue Luck is underpaid, what a joke.

You want to know who’s underpaid? Tom Brady. Brady is the greatest quarterback in NFL history and he makes peanuts compared to mediocre quarterbacks in the NFL. You may ask yourself, ‘Why? Why wouldn’t the Patriots give Brady every penny he’s worth?’ and the short answer is because he doesn’t want it. Any idiot with half a brain knows that Brady wants to win and not make money. He wants championships and set records and wants to win every time he steps onto the field. He has money, his wife has money, so he’s not worried about that. Brady restructures his contract every few years to move money around and free up some cap space, and he does it because he wants to win. When he moves money around the team has more cap, when the team has more cap they can keep their guys in house or go and get a guy in free agency.

Look at all the $100m quarterbacks that aren’t worth half of what they are getting paid, I mean seriously, half of them don’t have superbowl rings at all. Here’s a few $100m quarterbacks and you tell me where Brady ranks among them: Cutler, Ryan, Kaepernick, Flacco, Romo, Newton, Brees, and Rogers. Only 3 of those players I listed have a superbowl ring, a as in 1 superbowl ring. Brady has more than everyone on that list combined and he has more superbowl appearances than everyone on that list combined.

$100m players are team killers, how much did the Patriots lose after they won the superbowl? Not a whole lot. They lost Revis, who everyone knew was a rental anyway, and now look, Revis is starting to show his age. Most of the other teams get picked clean after winning a superbowl because they can’t afford to keep half their free agents because of the price tag on their quarterback. Until teams wake up and stop paying that much for a player, they will be shackled for years to come. I love it, because the Patriots have not only the best quarterback in the league, they also have the best mindset about what it takes to win.
