The Patriots have one of the most talented teams in the league this season. Of course, they will not be able to keep the 90-man roster that they have today once the season starts. A series of cutdowns will take place to trim the roster down to 53 men by the opening day of the 2016 season.

Some positions will be easy to make final decisions on, say the quarterbacks, yet the Patriots face difficult decisions primarily in the areas of running backs, receivers, and linemen. While these decisions will likely not be season-altering, they are vastly more important and difficult than given credit for.

Below is my first opening day roster projection for this upcoming season. Don’t take this projection as gospel because, many times, the Patriots have made surprising cap casualties that gain the attention of the sports world.
