Welcome to another installment in Musket Fire’s annual jersey number-dictated New England Patriots kick-off countdown series. For the duration of the summer, we will be profiling the player whose jersey number corresponds with the number of days left until the New England Patriots open the season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 11. Since today marks 94 days until the Sunday Night Football opener, we are profiling No. 94, veteran defensive tackle Markus Kuhn.

Size: 6-foot-4, 299 pounds

College: North Carolina State

2015 stats (with Giants): 20 combined tackles, 0.5 sacks

NFL experience: Four seasons (age 30)

Hometown: Wenheim, Germany

Kuhn left the Giants in free agency after four seasons due to the fact that the G-Men dropped big money on former New York Jets defensive tackle Damon Harrison. There wasn’t much left for Kuhn wearing Giant blue; this summer, we’ll see if he can squeak onto the roster and wear Patriot blue.

Here are all 61 colleges represented on Patriots roster

Unfortunately for Kuhn, the Patriots already have Malcom Brown and Alan Branch returning from last season. Additionally, the offseason acquisitions of veteran Terrance Knighton and draft pick Vincent Valentine will make Kuhn’s bid that much harder.

Recent installments in Patriots kick-off countdown series:

97 days – No. 97 Alan Branch

96 days – No. 96 Terrance Knighton

95 days – No. 95 Chris Long

As we detailed in our 32 interesting facts for 32 offseason additions piece last week, Kuhn was the first German-born player to ever score a touchdown in the NFL when he scooped a fumble and reached pay dirt against the Tennessee Titans in December of 2014. Kuhn joins Sebastian Vollmer in the Patriots’ locker room as a fellow German citizen.
