Predicting New England Patriots depth chart: Pre-minicamp edition
CORNERBACKS (5)
Malcolm Butler
Logan Ryan
Cyrus Jones
E.J. Biggers
Darryl Roberts
Practice squad: Justin Coleman, Jonathan Jones
Cut: V’Angelo Bentley, Cre’von Leblanc
The Patriots depth chart at cornerback is probably going to be the best storyline in training camp. You have a pair of 2017 free agents locked-in at the top two spots in Butler and Ryan, and then the Patriots’ initial selection in the 2016 NFL Draft occupying the slot in Jones. After that, it’s a six-man race for the two remaining spots (unless the Pats tack on a sixth corner).
Malcolm Butler will lead NFL in interceptions
Biggers appears likely to make the roster because he is coming off arguably his best season as a pro. Plus, this position could use a veteran influence since the longest-tenured player is fourth-year man Ryan.
Power ranking offseason cornerback additions
And we can’t forget about Darryl Roberts, who was one of the major stories of training camp last year before breaking his wrist and missing his entire rookie season. Roberts is going to roar back in training camp once again and solidify a roster spot.
Coleman lands on the practice squad after earning his stripes last year, and so does Jones, who the Patriots love for his speed.
