RUNNING BACK (5)

LeGarrette Blount

Dion Lewis

James White

Brandon Bolden

James Develin

Practice squad: D.J. Foster

Cut: Joey Iosefa, Donald Brown, Tyler Gaffney

While everyone and their mother (including this writer, admittedly) clamored for the Patriots to draft a running back or make a play for a top-tier free agent back like Matt Forte or Chris Ivory, Bill Belichick held steady and stuck with this group, and that is perfectly fine.

The addition of speedster Foster is great, as he will reside on the practice squad and will be activated in the event that Lewis or White get hurt. The Patriots love having pass catching backs, so it doesn’t hurt to add Foster into the mix.

As for power, Develin can take a short-yardage handoff here and there to spell Blount. And although Iosefa is pegged to be cut, it’s unlikely another team will pick him up, so you could see him back on the field eventually in 2016.
