2. Shaq Mason

A football player named “Shaq” is noteworthy for sure. It also doesn’t hurt that Mason’s style of play as a snowplowing run blocker echoes the sentiments of his first name. Great name.

Patriots should trade for Ronald Leary

Last December, Bill Belichick heaped praise on then-rookie Mason and his outstanding blocking ability, saying the following to the media:

"Probably one of the most athletic offensive linemen I’ve coached. He’d certainly been in that upper category, the upper part of that conversation. He runs well, has got very good balance, short space quickness, and he’s light on his feet. Fundamentally, technique-wise, there are a lot of things that he still needs to work on, and Shaq has improved a lot, but there’s still things for him to work on. Things that he can do better and more consistently. But just in terms of athleticism, balance, speed, quickness, he’s very good. Very talented."

Patriots couldn’t be in a better position right now

Mason stands a good chance to start for the Patriots at guard in 2016 despite the offseason additions of Jonathan Cooper, Joe Thuney and Ted Karras.
