Round 6, Pick 46 (No. 221 overall) – Ted Karras

The lowdown: Football is in Karras’ blood. He was the seventh member of his family to play Big 10 football, and he is the fourth Karras to reach the pros. Karras is a tough man’s tough man, utilizing great upper body strength in the trenches. And here’s why the Patriots drafted him: he was penalized just two times over the past two seasons.

Where he could fit: Look, the Patriots are taking a quantity approach toward addressing their depth issues on the offensive line. Especially if the Patriots decide to run the ball more in 2016, Karras could provide injury insurance.

Who he will be competing against: Of course, fellow draft pick Thuney; Dante Scarnecchia has indicated that Thuney will be used primarily at guard. In addition, Karras will face competition from returners Kilne, Jackson, Mason and newcomer Cooper.

Roster chances: 1.75/10. The Patriots need depth on the offensive line, but not everyone can come aboard. Keep in mind that only Tom Brady and Nate Ebner are the Patriots’ only sixth round selections this millennium that have stuck around.
