Patriots draft Kamu Grugier-Hill

Round 6, Pick 33 (No. 208 overall) – Kamu Grugier-Hill

The lowdown: Despite an Achilles injury that kept him out of the final three games of the 2015 season, Grugier-Hill ripped off a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He may not be the bulkiest linebacker in the world at 215 pounds, but Grugier-Hill possesses above-average start and stop ability. He fits the trend of the growing hybrid linebacker/safety role, and figures to be a special teams stud.

Where he could fit: At first, Grugier-Hill’s best bet at making the team will be on special teams. There is reason to believe that his speedy 6-foot-2 frame will be put to practice on punt coverage in training camp. Down the road, Grugier-Hill could factor into sub packages on settled defense if he puts in enough hours in the weight room.

In-depth: Patriots draft review and grades

Who he will be competing against: Unfortunately for Grugier-Hill, the Patriots do not lack special teams studs. From Brandon Bolden to Matthew Slater, Jonathan Freeny to Ramon Humber and Nate Ebner to Brandon King, the Patriots have plenty of special teams weapons. In addition to those guys, Grugier-Hill will be working against fellow depth linebackers Tony Steward, Kevin Snyder, Elandon Roberts, Rufus Johnson and Jon Bostic.

Roster chances: 5/10. Flip a coin. Heads, and Grugier-Hill will reunite with former Eastern Illinois teammate Garoppolo; tails, and he looks for employment elsewhere.
