For all the criticism heaped on New England by the NFL Draft experts for reaching to pick Geneo Grissom in the third round and Jordan Richards they received an equal amount of praise for stealing Trey Flowers in the fourth round. Flowers had a second round/early third round draft grade and at six-foot-two and 266 pounds he flashed impressive pass rushing skills in training camp and the preseason.

Flowers missed most of 2015 with shoulder and knee injuries and finished the year on injured reserve. He has fellow second-year defensive end Grissom, Jabaal Sheard, Rob Ninkovich, and Chris Long ahead of him on the depth chart. Having traded away starter Chandler Jones, Flowers should be in the competition with Long for playing time behind Sheard in Jones’ old spot.  This coming season is shaping up to a “prove-it” season for Flowers after an injury-plagued 2015.
