3. Second round surprises

It’s never boring being a Patriots fans. Sometimes, Belchick makes some head-scratching decisions on draft day, and it only adds to the excitement of being a Patriots fan.

In 2012, the Patriots selected Tavon Wilson out of the blue. Wilson never really developed into much more than a special teamer and depth safety in New England, signing with the Detroit Lions this offseason. He would have been available a few rounds later.

The following year, the Patriots drafted Aaron Dobson in the second round, an unusual occurrence considering that the Patriots barely ever draft a wide receiver that early.

Perhaps the biggest draft surprise in recent memory was the reaching for Garoppolo in the second round back in 2014. No one saw that coming.

Following in the footsteps of Wilson three years prior, Jordan Richards was the unknown safety the Patriots selected in last year’s second round. Again, he would have been available several rounds later.

You just never know with the Patriots.
