1. Malcom Brown

Entering the 2016 season, Brown is the top breakout candidate on defense. The reasoning here is that Brown improved in every game as a rookie and his future looks exceedingly bright.

Athletic for a big man, Brown played like a seasoned veteran as the 2015 progressed. Any and all doubts surrounding the Patriots’ decision to release Vince Wilfork before the season were extinguished as Brown came into his own.

Look for the Texas product to reach new heights in 2016. Don’t mistake the signing of Terrance Knighton as a sign that Brown’s playing time will decrease. Rather, view it as Bill Belichick stock piling depth behind his crown jewel defensive tackle, Brown.

Mark these words: before the end of his career, Brown will contend for Defensive Player of the Year.
