It isn’t official, because nothing has been signed, but according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, free agent defensive tackle Terrance Knighton intends to sign with the New England Patriots.

About 20 minutes earlier, Russini tweeted out that Knighton was deciding between the Washington Redskins and the Patriots.

Right around the time Russini broke this news, Knighton himself tweeted this out. Pretty self-explanatory.

After the Redskins initially told Pot Roast they would be letting him walk, Knighton visited the Patriots and was evidently impressed by what he saw. Once the Patriots showed significant interested, the Redskins went back on their words and re-opened negotiations with Knighton. But it appears it was too little, too late for the Redskins.

With Knighton in the fold, the Patriots have filled the void left by the departed Akiem Hicks on the defensive tackle depth chart. The now have Malcom Brown, Alan Branch, Dominique Easley and Knighton backed up by returners Ishmaa’ily Kitchen, Chris Jones and Joe Vellano. Once again, the Patriots are deep at the nose tackle position.

As you well know, Knighton isn’t the first veteran defensive lineman to sign with the Patriots this offseason. Chris Long, signed a few weeks, ago chimed in on Twitter early Thursday evening following the news:

To say the Patriots have been active in free agency this offseason would be an understatement. This writer loves everything they have been doing. The addition of Pot Roast only adds more beef to a burgeoning pool of front seven talent, and that’s saying something after the departure of Chandler Jones.
