Patriots: Reordering wide receiver depth chart after Nate Washington signing

3. Keshawn Martin

Because of his recent track record of proven success operating in the Patriots’ offense, Martin is ranked above newcomer veterans Washington and Hogan. That is subject to change as we get a better idea of how those two are progressing and faring in the Patriots’ system, but right now, Martin looks like a likely candidate to land on the final roster.

In nine games last year Martin, caught 24 of 37 targets for 269 yards and two touchdowns. No, not monstrous production, but consistent and reliable. What sticks out is Martin’s first touchdown as a Patriot, back in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars when broke off his route and got open for a scrambling Brady. It was a display of good instincts, understanding and finishing ability.

You may disagree with Martin getting ranked this high, but it’s awfully hard to digest and execute the Patriots’ complicated offense, so give Martin credit where credit is due.
