Patriots: Reordering wide receiver depth chart after Nate Washington signing

7. Chris Harper

Harper was one of the darlings of Patriots’ training camp last year, forcing his way onto the Week 1 roster. Although Harper would be demoted the following week, he worked hard in practice and suited up against the Buffalo Bills in November. You may remember that Harper made an outstanding, acrobatic grab in that game but it was called back due to a penalty.

Unfortunately, Harper botched a punt return the following week against the Denver Broncos, which was arguably the difference in the overtime loss. Harper got the chop soon after.

However, the Patriots soon re-signed the Cal product, and he actually appeared in both playoff games this past winter. Clearly, the Patriots are keen on Harper and intend to see how he fares against a crowd of veterans this summer.

Harper is very promising, but we have yet to see his potential translate on the field. That’s the reasoning for placing him behind one of the more frustrating players Bill Belichick has ever drafted…
