Patriots free agency: 6 players Patriots should avoid signing
5. Curtis Lofton
When the Oakland Raiders signed longtime New Orleans Saints starting linebacker Lofton last offseason, it looked like a pretty solid signing. The Raiders’ reasoning was not flawed: a productive veteran, Lofton seemed like the perfect addition to a young linebacking corps of Malcolm Smith, Khalil Mack and others.

But alas, it didn’t really pan out. Lofton didn’t flourish in the three-down role like he did in New Orleans, and his playing time decreased as the season progressed.
Before the signings of Shea McClellin and Ramon Humber during Patriots free agency, Lofton may have seemed like a decent target. After all, the Patriots lost veteran presence Jerod Mayo this offseason. But at this point, Lofton just doesn’t make sense.
