Patriots free agency: 6 available players Patriots should consider
3. Nate Washington
That the Patriots hosted Washington on a visit after the signing is noteworthy, and frankly, this writer would have no quibbles if Washington donned Patriot blue in 2016.
MUST-READ: Ranking Patriots’ most impactful offseason additions
Entering his 12th season out of Tiffin University, Washington has no shortage of experience; his career stat line reads 6,954 yards and 44 touchdowns on 458 receptions.
Despite his age of 32 last season, Washington racked up 47 catches for 658 yards and four touchdowns. Like Boldin, he’s not going to toast you with speed these days, but Washington is still a solid pass catcher, certainly a guy who could enjoy playing with Tom Brady in his final NFL seasons.
As noted by Mike Reiss, Washington is familiar with the Patriots’ way of doing things offensively:
"Because the Texans, coached by former New England offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, run a similar offensive system to the Patriots it adds a layer to the personnel evaluation that the team doesn’t always have."
It’s worth consideration.
