1. Martellus Bennett
Not surprisingly, Bennett is the newcomer this writer has pegged as having the biggest impact for the Patriots in 2016.
RELAED: Patriots trade for Martellus Bennett
It should be noted that our very own David Smith lobbied for the Patriots to trade for Bennett weeks before it happened. Here’s an excerpt from David’s piece:
"Bennett would easily be the team’s best move at tight end, because in my opinion, he’s a poor man’s Jimmy Graham: doesn’t really block that much but can do some things with the ball in his hands. He’s big enough (6-foot-6) and fast enough (4.68 40-yard dash) to be a great complement to Gronk."
Only a year removed from a 2014 season of 916 yards and six touchdowns on 90 receptions, Bennett has to be considered a top-five tight end in the NFL. It’s simply huge that the Patriots managed to corral him this offseason.
A stat line of 65 receptions for 800 yards and eight touchdowns would be a good goal for Bennett.
