Patriots: Which offseason additions will be most impactful in 2016?

6. Donald Brown

You might be a bit surprised to see Brown so low in this ranking. But here’s the reasoning: the Patriots already have two running backs who pretty much do what Brown specializes in: catching passes out of the backfield and occasionally taking handoffs.

With Dion Lewis and James White secure as stalwarts in the Patriots’ backfield, one has to wonder a little bit why the Patriots signed Brown.

Sure, he’s a solid player. No doubt about that. But his skill set was structurally pushed out in San Diego due to Danny Woodhead, and that could happen again in New England with Lewis and White already fixtures in the Patriots’ offense.

It depends on the LeGarrette Blount situation, but there’s a chance that Brown won’t make it through training camp if he can’t bring something new to the table.
