We love NFL free agency.

Just ask the NBA and NHL, both of whom are nearing their respective playoffs. Just ask the MLB, who is nearing the start of their regular season. No matter what storylines may dominate those sports, NFL free agents takes precedence in national sports media. Why?

For all its public relations shortcomings and incompetencies to deal with crises, the NFL has an outstanding product: its players. When it comes time to do some shuffling around of those players, it is extremely entertaining.

For fans of bad and good teams alike, NFL free agency offers a chance for repairs and upgrades. If you’re a fan of the Jacksonville Jagaurs, you have to feel great about dropping cash on Malik Jackson, Chris Ivory and Tashaun Gipson. If you’re a fan of the New England Patriots, you have to chuckle a little bit at a typical Bill Belichick move, signing free agent linebacker Ramon Humber, of all people.

To put it simply, it is exciting to see how the league’s personnel shifts and shakes out every March. Sure, the first few days of free agency bring about the most high-profile and bank-battering signings, but the ensuing days and weeks are just important and intriguing.

Once free agency subsides, NFL fans are treated to an even more exciting event: the draft. An argument could be made that the NFL offseason is just as intriguing as the actual Sundays in the fall and winter, at least to some degree.
