To solve their problem at the nickel corner spot, the Patriots should make a play for free agent slot corner Boykin. In addition to representing the Steelers on our team-by-team Patriots free agency wish list, Boykin was ranked as the No. 13 target for the Pats in free agency:

"A cornerback group of Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan starting on the perimeter with Boykin nestled in to the slot would be an upgrade over the Patriots’ 2015 secondary. The days of Johnson, Coleman and Rashaan Melvin fighting over the No. 3 role need to be long gone."

If need be, Boykin is fully capable of starting on the outside in the event that an injury hits Malcolm Butler or Logan Ryan. You just can’t have enough starting-caliber cornerbacks on your roster in today’s NFL.
