5. Re-sign Akiem Hicks

The top priority on the Patriots’ own list of free agents is undoubtedly Hicks, who only improved as the 2015 season wore on and he became more accustomed to life in New England. By the postseason, he was the No. 3 defensive tackle behind Malcom Brown and Alan Branch.

With Dominique Easley returning to the fold after another injury-shortened season, the Patriots would field one of the better interior defensive lines in the league if they can hang onto Hicks. By letting Siliga go, the Patriots cleared room for the re-signing of Hicks not just on the depth chart, but they payroll as well.

However, the Patriots aren’t the only team interested in Hicks’ services, so they will have to fork over some funds.
