It was a busy Monday in the NFL yesterday, highlighted by the retirement of Peyton Manning. There was also plenty of New England Patriots news to chew on. Here’s a rundown of the six most important items:

6. Rob Gronkowski option picked up

It was first reported by Ian Rapoport that the Patriots picked up Gronk’s option:

Obviously, this is no surprise. But it’s still noteworthy, as any news involving the best tight end in football needs attention.

The Patriots paid $4 million of that $10 million this summer, and they paid off the remaining $6 million by picking up the option. If they hadn’t Gronk would have hit the open market. Imagine that.
