Defensive end

  1. Muhammad Wilkerson
  2. Olivier Vernon
  3. Malik Jackson
  4. Akiem Hicks

Honorable mention: Greg Hardy

Defensive tackle

  1. Terrance Knighton
  2. Brandon Mebane

Honorable mention: B.J. Raji

Hardy gets only an honorable mention nod because he is simply too risky of a signing. He is supremely talented, but too much of a loose cannon to garner much interest in free agency. For all we know, he may go down the Ray Rice route and never play again in the NFL.

The Broncos’ Super Bowl run rocketed Jackson’s stock through the roof. He’ll command decent money on the open market should the Broncos let him reach it.

As for Hicks, he was a very effective midseason addition for the Patriots and the team would be smart to re-sign him sooner rather than later.

Moving on to defensive tackle, “Pot Roast” had himself a season in 2015. No player in the NFL has a thicker lower half than Knighton, yet he still moves nimbly for such a big man.
