Running backs

  1. Lamar Miller
  2. Matt Forte
  3. Doug Martin
  4. Chris Ivory

Here is a pretty loaded group of ball carriers. At age 24 already with four seasons under his belt, Miller has to be considered the darling of the free agent running back crop. He’s just as lethal catching passes out of the backfield as he is taking handoffs. Word on the street is that he wants a feature back role.

Matt Forte has been connected with the Patriots from the moment the Chicago Bears cut ties with him a few weeks ago. Even at age 30, Forte deserves to be in the starting lineup of the 2016 NFL free agency all-star team.

Martin has sandwich poor seasons in 2013 and 2014 with 1,400-yard efforts in 2012 and now 2015, so it looks like he’s on track to make a buck or two in free agency.

Ivory is one of the AFC East veterans this writer urged the Patriots to consider signing if Forte doesn’t work out.
