5. Poor star power

The main selling point of the Pro Bowl is that it pits the top players in the NFL against each other. That sounds pretty good, right? Well, in reality, the players that will be suiting up on Sunday are not the best players in the NFL.

Jameis Winston may have had a solid rookie year, but by no means is he an elite quarterback right now. The only reason he’s in the 2016 Pro Bowl is due to the fact that Tom Brady dropped out (more on that later).

10 Long-term positives from Patriots’ 2015 season

Even if Brady and the other Patriots voted to the 2016 Pro Bowl decided to play, the star power of the game would still be lacking. As long as the Pro Bowl is being played the weekend before the Super Bowl, the two teams still contending for the Lombardi Trophy won’t have players in the game. Guys like Emmanuel Sanders, Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, Cam Newton, Greg Olsen, Josh Norman and Luke Kuechly would bolster the star power of the 2016 Pro Bowl, but of course they won’t be playing.

Instead, the 2016 Pro Bowl is just an odd amalgamation of some stars, B-list players and over-the-hill guys with name recognition (how else could Logan Mankins have made the list?).
