We’re still in the dark as to the status of injured defensive stars Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins, as Bill Belichick implored to the press on Tuesday that until the Patriots practice on Wednesday, he has no clue if they will be available for the big game. Since Collins’ situation, in particular, is up in the air, Freeny should be viewed as a potential surprise hero in the AFC Championship Game.

Jonathan Freeny, Jerod Mayo must step up for Patriots

Along with Dekoda Watson and Darius Fleming, Freeny stepped into action against the Chiefs after Collins, Dont’a Hightower and Jerod Mayo all excited the game with ailments. Freeny has been the Patriots’ top backup option at linebacker all year, so keep an eye on him this week as the situation with Collins unfolds.

Even if Collins is able to go on Sunday, Freeny could still factor into the game as a sub and emerge as a surprise hero.
