Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning Rivalry: Analyzing Playoff History
2006 AFC Championship Game – Colts 38, Patriots 34
Brady: 21 of 34, 232 yards, touchdown, interception
Manning: 27 of 47, 349 yards, touchdown, interception, rushing touchdown
After working through the New York Jets and San Diego Chargers in the first two rounds of the playoffs, Brady was dealt his second career playoff loss when Marlin Jackson picked him off on the Patriots’ final drive.

Save for an interception that culminated in an Asante Samuel pick-six, Manning was exceptional, finally shrugging the Patriots off his back in the postseason. Manning had actually won the two previous regular season contests against Brady in 2005 and 2006, so this victory had been in the making for a few years.
Dan Klecko was on the receiving end of Manning’s lone touchdown. Manning’s leading receiver was Dallas Clark and his 137 yards through the air.
As was often the case in the 2006 season, no one in the receiving crops stepped up and took the game by the reins. Ben Watson paced the Patriots with 48 yards on the day.
At the tail end of the game, Brady really forced that throw, and Jackson made him pay for it. Jackson didn’t do much else in his brief career, but that play was arguably the difference in the Colts’ super season.
