4. Week 12, 2005 – Chiefs 26, Patriots 16

In the rocky 2005 season following the Patriots’ Super Bowl wins in 2003 and 2004, this loss bumped the Patriots down to 6-5 on the year. The Patriots were unable to recover from a 19-3 halftime deficit.

As you might expect, this was by far Brady’s worst performance of the 2005 season, as evidenced by his ugly quarterback rating of 42.5. Brady threw four interceptions on the day, which crippled the Patriots’ chances of winning at Arrowhead Stadium. Three of those picks came by way of Greg Wesley, the other by Sammy Knight.

Ranking all 16 regular season games by most fun to watch

Brady completed just barely over half of his passes (22 of 40) for 248 yards. His lone touchdown pass, to Christian Fauria, was too little, too late.

The Patriots would go on a tear after this wake-up call, winning four straight before bowing-out to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17. Brady’s bid at a third-straight Super Bowl ring would be thwarted by the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round.
