5. Rob Gronkowski’s touchdown against the Seahawks

When it happened: Super Bowl XLIX (February 1st, 2015)

Where it happened: Glendale, Arizona

What happened: Gronkowski caught the Patriots’ second touchdown in Super Bowl XLIX.

With 31 seconds left in the first half, everyone knew where the ball was going. Gronk had single coverage against linebacker K.J. Wright. In the mic’d up edit of Super Bowl XLIX, you can see/hear Pete Carroll talking to himself, urging Wright before the snap—fully aware that Brady was going to throw the ball that direction.

Sure enough, Wright was no match for Brady’s perfect pass to the 6-foot-6 Gronk.

Unfortunately, what should have been an emphatic end to the first half of the big game ended up not being the last points scored before the teams left for the locker rooms. Chris Matthews caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the waning seconds before the end of the second quarter.

Regardless, this play has to be viewed as one of the best moments of the year because it involved a Gronk spike on the biggest stage.
