New England Patriots Will Be Throwing The Ball Once Again vs. Jaguars

The offensive gameplan for the New England Patriots over the first two weeks of the season has been focused on Tom Brady‘s right arm. Brady has thrown the ball a whopping 91 times through two games, while the Pats have ran the ball only 39 times. This is obviously by design, as Bill Belichick and company felt like the Patriots would have more success through the air than on the ground versus both the Steelers, and the Bills. I expect New England to use this offensive tactic once again this week against the Jaguars, although hopefully Brady won’t have to throw it 59 times like he did last week in Buffalo.

Jacksonville has a strong front seven, as they are fifth against the run through two games, but their secondary is mediocre. I can’t name one player from their defensive backfield off the top of my head, and after going through each player briefly, they aren’t going to stand a chance against this offense on Sunday. Nobody can cover Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman is one of the toughest covers in the league, and Dion Lewis, Aaron Dobson, Scott Chandler, and Danny Amendola will all have favorable matchups as well. Demetrius McCray and Davon House are the two starting corners for the Jags, and I expect Brady to exploit them early and often.

One name that did jump off my screen was safety Sergio Brown, who used to play for New England, but is mostly known for getting ‘thrown out of the club’ by Gronkowski last year in Indianapolis. You best believe Brown will be covering Gronk a few times in this game, and I expect big number 87 to torch him once again.

The bottom line is this: Jacksonville has a nice front seven, but if the Patriots can keep Brady upright, which based off their performance against the Bills they will be able to do, New England should have another big day throwing the football. They have too many weapons for the Jags, and they have a quarterback who is on a mission to punish everyone in the NFL this year.
