AFC East: The Best Division In Football?
By Cyrus Geller
After one week of NFL action, there is only one division in the league that is undefeated, and that is the vaunted AFC East. A laughingstock for so many years, I think the AFC East has finally turned that corner, and just might be the best division in football right now.
The Jets were impressive in their 31-10 drubbing of the Browns, as their defense shut down Johnny Manziel after his initial splash after entering the game. Miami was probably the least impressive of the four, but they still pulled out a win, holding the Redskins to 10 points, and coming up with two big takeaways.
However the Bills and the Patriots really impressed, which is what makes next week’s matchup so exciting. The Bills dominated Indianapolis from start to finish, as their defense flustered Andrew Luck, and Tyrod Taylor led an explosive offensive attack. I think a big part of that was the Colts are vastly overrated, but at the same time, you have to admit Buffalo’s defense is legit, and they put together some nice offensive plays, albeit against a bad Indy defense.
We know what we’re getting in New England, as they are in fact the defending Super Bowl champions. That offense is one of the best in the league, Tom Brady will be on a mission to annihilate everyone this year, and while the defense struggled in the opening game, I am confident they will bounce back as the season progresses.
I can’t wait for next Sunday’s matchup in Buffalo, as it should be a doozy. Tom Brady generally fares very well against the Bills, but Rex Ryan has been able to slow down Brady in the past when he was with the Jets. The Patriots will have to get the quick passing game going early to slow down the Bills’ pass rush, and it wouldn’t hurt to give LeGarrette Blount some early opportunities as well.
So, is the AFC East the best division in football? You can certainly make an argument that they are. Let’s see how they do throughout the 2015 season.
