1. James Develin and Darryl Roberts were placed in the IR

When Develin initially broke his tibia, we were under the impression that he would be back in a month and a half, or two months at most. That turns out not to be the case.

The man that Tom Brady called the best fullback in football will miss the entire 2015 season because of his leg injury. Without a doubt, the Patriots will miss Develin’s snowplowing in the ground game. He’s a good Patriot, Develin is.

Roberts had some really unfortunate luck earlier in August. He started the game against the Green Bay Packers, an indication that the Patriots wanted to give the seventh-round rookie a long and meaningful look as a starting cornerback, or at the very least a roster cornerback. In that limited action, Roberts made a few nice plays and contained his receiver well.

But the injured his wrist in that first quarter, and it cost the Marshall product his rookie season. Along with Develin, he was placed on the injured reserve yesterday.

One guy to keep an eye on now that Roberts is out of the picture at cornerback is Daxton Swanson, who is competing with Robert McClain for the final spot on the depth chart.
