News broke Monday afternoon that the New England Patriots placed veteran wide receiver Brandon Gibson on injured reserve.

Here’s my take on the news:
This development sheds light on the signing of Reggie Wayne earlier in the day. This whole summer, the Patriots have been an injury or two away from signing the future Hall of Famer.
When Brian Tyms got bad news two days ago, the Patriots didn’t need Wayne. But now that Gibson is done for the year officially, the Pats really needed an experienced veteran in the mix.
Now here’s the reaction of a handle of NFL fans with Twitter accounts:
Man...I knew it was a bad idea to sign Brandon Gibson. He's too injury prone. Well, we got Reggie Wayne.

It’s true that Gibson has missed 11 games in the past two regular seasons. From the moment the Pats signed Gibson, many people (especially Dolphins fans) doubted his ability to stay healthy enough to be a contributor.
ACLs are contagious in August.
The Brandon Gibson news sucks. Always liked the kid. Loved him when philly drafted him and then traded him to the Rams. Tough blow. #pats

Gibson is a respected journeyman having played for the Eagles, Rams and Dolphins before jetting up to Foxboro this offseason.
Right now I think Brandon Gibson is better than Reggie Wayne, but the difference won't be too huge for the Patriots.

Yeah, I agree with this. Gibson is younger and he was also having a very good training camp, whereas Wayne bay not bring as much to the table. Regardless, the Patriots’ offense will be fine with Gronk, Julian Edelman (who needs to heal), Danny Amendola and Brandon LaFell (also needs to heal).
Wouldn’t that be a sight. Undrafted rookie Jimmay Mundine is the current owner of Moss’ No. 81 jersey; I’m sure a trade among them could be worked out.
You weren’t the only one. Gibson was tracking upward before the Saints game.
