The New England Patriots are up for five different ESPY awards this year, and since there is absolutely no NFL news to talk about right now, I’m going to analyze these five categories. Yup, we’ve officially hit rock bottom.
Category 1: Best coach/manager
- Bill Belichick (Patriots)
- Geno Auriemma (UCONN)
- Steve Kerr (Warriors)
- Mike Krzyzewski (Duke)
- Urban Meyer (Ohio State)
Now, let’s remember that I am completely unbiased here, and I’m looking at this from a completely objective angle…
I believe Bill Belichick deserves to win this award, simply because what he accomplished in 2014 was the most impressive. No disrespect to any of the other candidates, but winning a Super Bowl is much more impressive than winning an NCAA basketball tournament (mens, or womens), winning the NBA Finals with one of the most loaded teams in recent memory, or winning the college national championship, although I will say that is the one that comes closest to what Belichick did.
Belichick didn’t have the most talented team in the world to work with, and not only that, he had to get his guys to bounce back from a 2-2 start, from everyone writing them off, to get back to the dominating level New England fans are used to. A lot of the credit has to go to Tom Brady, but Bill deserves a lot as well.
