Round 7, 247th Overall: CB Darryl Roberts

Roster chances: 4.98/10

It’s tough for any seventh rounder to make a roster, but Roberts actually has relatively promising prospects. While it’s still more likely than not that he will get cut before Week 1, the Marshall product has a fighting chance.

For starters, yesterday’s release of Alfonzo Dennard means there is one less player on the Patriots’ cornerback depth chart. That the Patriots will be essentially building the cornerback position from the ground up during training camp means Roberts will be seriously considered as a fixture in the secondary.

There’s no question the kid can play. Roberts amassed 17 passes defended in 2014, and he has ideal height for an NFL corner at 6-foot.

With Malcolm Butler, Kyle Arrington and Logan Ryan pretty much guaranteed roster spots, it will come down to Roberts and the three free agent pick-ups: Bradley Fletcher, Robert McClain, and Chimdi Chekwa. Beating-out McClain and Chekwa is a feasible goal for the rookie.
