New England Patriots’ Positional Breakdown: Quarterback
By Cyrus Geller
(This is the first entry in our ‘positional breakdown’ feature going through the New England Patriots’ roster. First up is the quarterback position)
Roster: Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo
There really isn’t much to say about this particular position. The Pats still have the best quarterback in the league in Tom Brady, and they have a damn fine backup as well. Garoppolo is now in his second year in the league, and while he doesn’t get much game-action behind Brady, he has proven that he can play well when needed.

I don’t think Bill Belichick will look to add to this group in the draft this year, although you really never know what the evil genius will do come draft day. We honestly didn’t expect him to take Garoppolo last year, although with Ryan Mallett’s contract running out, you could kind of see it coming at a certain point. This year however, I expect nothing of it.
The Pats’ probably have the best quarterback duo in the NFL right now, and there is absolutely no reason for them to do anything to change it going into the 2015 season. It all starts with Tom Brady, and as long as he is here, the Patriots will be in good hands. As far as I’m concerned he is still the best in the game, and coming off a fourth championship and third Super Bowl MVP, nobody can argue otherwise.
Brady may not be in his prime, but I think it just goes to show how good of a player he is to be the best in the game while slipping out of his prime. Aaron Rodgers is ridiculously talented, but even he is not on Brady’s level right now. What Tommy did to that Seattle defense in Super Bowl 49 was all-time stuff, and he has earned the right to wear the ‘best in the league’ title for now.
