1a. Re-Sign Darrelle Revis
I can’t put Revis over Devin McCourty, so we’re going to put re-signing Revis at 1a, and McCourty at 1b (more on him in a minute). The number one reason this defense progressed into a quality unit this year was the presence of one Darrelle Revis. Having a shutdown corner at Bill Belichick’s disposal allowed him to do so many different things schematically, and it let other guys play to their true strength with Revis taking the opposition’s top weapon out of the game.

Right now, Revis technically wouldn’t become a free agent, but the Pats would have to pick up his $20 million option before March 10th. Otherwise, he would hit the open market. Paying Revis that amount of money would be way too much for this team, but I am confident they will be able to sign him to a long-term deal. Revis made $12 million in 2014, and I think we could see the Patriots offer him something similar in the coming weeks. 3 years, $38-40 million? That seems reasonable.
The bottom line is if the Patriots want to get back to the Super Bowl in 2015, they need Revis on their side. He is the best cover corner in the game, and without him, the Pats are extremely thin at cornerback.
