Tommy Kelly has been released, which opens up a sliver of opportunity for Worthy to snatch up a roster spot. I personally would have liked to see Kelly stay, but if Bill Belichick is confident in the depth he has, I will be too.
Worthy didn’t look too bad in his preseason debut last week against the Panthers, but at the same time, he didn’t jump off my screen either. If he wants to earn a spot on this team, he must go out there and play great. He is a big guy, so he has to stay anchored on the inside, not give up ground, and be effective against the run. He also can push the pocket a bit, which is something the Patriots could definitely use now that Kelly is gone.
I think Worthy has a pretty good chance of making the final cuts as of right now, but of course, you never know what Belichick will do. It will be interesting to see how Worthy performs tonight.
