Round Four, Pick 140: Aaron Murray (QB, Georgia)

Now here’s an interesting idea. Taking a quarterback in the fourth round, that could potentially be Tom Brady’s replacement when the time eventually comes. I think most Patriots fans and pundits can agree that Ryan Mallett is most likely not going to be the heir apparent to the Brady crown, but a guy like Murray is an interesting choice. He’s not the greatest athlete, he doesn’t have the great arm strength that you want in a quarterback, he’s also small for a quarterback, but he is a winner, and that’s the kind of thing that people overlooked when it came to Brady all those years ago. Of course, Murray will not be Tom Brady, because there’s only ever going to one of them, but he could be a very good starter in the NFL. An injury has caused him to drop this far, but that could be a huge advantage for the Patriots. They could take him, put him on injured reserve, and still keep Ryan Mallett as their backup for this year, or they could even trade Mallett for some picks either this year or the next, if they feel Murray will be ready to compete for training camp and the preseason.

Other Options: QB Logan Thomas, QB David Fales
