Cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis spoke for the first time as Patriots today. Here are a few quotes: (via the terrific Mike Reiss over at ESPN Boston)
Browner on Revis:
"“It will be fun”. Browner said Revis is someone he’s studied in the past, calling him a “pretty good technician who always seems like he has a good base, a good balance in his backpedal.” Browner envisions Revis pushing him in the same way that Richard Shermanand his “Legion of Boom” teammates did in Seattle."
Browner expects to play a lot of man coverage:
"“A lot of the stuff I’ll be doing on defense, I did in Seattle; the only thing that [is different] is the terminology. I was also told we play a lot of man to man, which is my strong suit. From what I understand they’re going to have us matched up [a lot].” Browner later added that one of his goals now is “to win the big one” and “that’s part of the reason I made the decision to come to New England.”"
He also said that he doesn’t expect to play safety:
"Browner said all discussions with the Patriots have been about playing cornerback. If the coaching staff approached him about playing safety, he’d be willing to because, “I just want to play some football and I’m fortunate to be playing for a team like the Pats.”"
Here is what Revis had to say on choosing New England:
"“It’s basically about just winning. I weighed my options and I just wanted to win.“I felt like this is the right place. What better organization than the New England Patriots to be a part of?”"
After reading these quotes, I am really excited for these two to hit the field. Both seem like they have right mentality to play for the Patriots, specifically Revis, and his “all about winning” quote. As for Browner, I like him in a man coverage, corner position, simply because he was a dominant force there only two years ago.
