5. Alex Smith

I know that placing Smith at number five isn’t the most popular pick, but I have really liked what I have seen from him over the last few weeks. First off, that “vaunted” Kansas City defense hasn’t played nearly as well has they did over the first nine games of the season. A defense that at one point in the season was ranked in the top five in all major categories now ranks 20th in yards, 19th against the pass, and 16th against the run. But Smith has worked through this recently porous Chiefs defense, and has led Kansas City to a 10-3 record. Sure he gets a lot of help from Jamal Charles and Dwayne Bowe, but scoring 111 points over the last three games is no small feat, and Smith definitely deserves a lot of the credit.
