Since the early end of minicamp with the team announcing the planned final minicamp practice and media access cancellation of June 13, there has been nothing but busy weeks up to the today’s much anticipated start of training camp. Team Captains, Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Jerod Mayo, Devin McCourty, Matthew Slater and Vince Wilfork will make themselves available for media today at the Gilllette Stadium.

As the focus gears towards football mind-oriented and eyes on the field issues, roster maneuvers will be an important and changing process until the final 53-man roster is set by August 31. From the end of minicamp up to now, the Patriots initiate this year’s training camp with the following major transactions.

07/22/2013Signed DT Anthony Rashad WhitePreviously signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in May as a rookie free agent out of Michigan State, White wide frame (6’2”, 320 lbs) bring explosives to win the line of scrimmage in a two-gap style clogging up the middle –  NT worth keeping.
07/21/2013Signed CB Justin GreenUndrafted rookie cornerback Justin Green brings that versatility that Belichick likes as he started his Illinois career as a running back before moving to the defensive side of the ball. As a senior he played 12 games, starting 11 games, recording 6 passes defended and 36 total tackles.
07/19/2013Cut WR Donald JonesWith a strong  Kenbrell Thompkins’ performance at minicamp and a $200,000 roster bonus due at training camp, Jones competition for the job ended.
07/19/2013Signed WR Perez AshfordPreviously signed by the Browns as a rookie free agent, then release late in May. Ashford finished hiscollegiate season at Northern Illinois with 110 receptions for 1,192 yards and he also was used as a kickoff returner
07/19/2013Signed WR Quentin SimsSims played two seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring to Tennessee-Martin, recording a total of 86 receptioins for 1,092 yards with 16 touchdowns. He’s probably being underrated as a wide receiver as he showed he can play quarterback in high school to fill in for an injured quarterback.
06/26/2013Released TE Aaron Hernandez
06/20/2013Signed WR Aaron Dobson
06/17/2013Signed RB George WinnSigned by Houston Texans as a rookie free agent out of Cincinnati and released later on in May, Winn (5’10”, 218lbs) is known for his strength and quick burst once finding the open field, also great in reading lead blocker, finding space, short-yardage, and goal-line situations. He certainly can compete against LeGarrette Blount spot as he had a strong finish with 1,334 rushing yeard on 234 attempts with 13 touchdowns last season for Cincinnati.
