2013 NFL Draft: Tavon Austin talks Jets

The New York Jets hosted West Virginia Mountaineers wide receiver Tavon Austin on a pre-draft visit, and they reportedly love the small, speedy wide receiver who could potentially be the next Percy Harvin. Austin will most likely be taken in the top 15 of this draft, and the Jets are in prime position to snag Austin off of the board with their newly-minted 13th pick in the draft. There was some speculation that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who also reportedly “love” Austin, would forego needs on defense to take Austin, but it now looks like the Jets could use their second first-round pick to get themselves a true playmaker on offense.

The Jets sorely need playmakers, and Austin would be a great addition to this team. Mark Sanchez would get a guy who can make things happen after the catch, and that’s something that will take a lot of stress (there’s been plenty of that) off of Sanchez’s shoulders. He already lost Dustin Keller to a division rival this offseason, and the wide receiver position is still a weakness for the Jets.

Austin even told the New Jersey Star-Ledger  that the Jets said they have “a plan” for Tavon Austin. “I had a visit with them, so I was in their facility. They put me on the board and everything, (to) see how smart I was. For the most part everything went well. I met everybody, and they pretty much said they like me a lot, and hopefully we can make it happen.”

The piece linked above to the Star-Ledger is well-worth reading, because there are a lot more choice quotes from Austin. I think taking a wide receiver would be an excellent move for the Jets with the 13th pick, and it seems like Austin is the best guy for the Jets to choose.

Jets fans, it’s time for you guys to sound off on a rival site. Do you think Tavon Austin should be selected by the New York Jets? Is wide receiver the right way to go with the 13th choice?
