Patriots Injury Report and Roster Moves
By author
The Patriots conducted practice inside the Dana Farber Field House due to the weather today. Today marked the first practice since training camp broke. These practices are not open to the public and are only attended by the media. At practice, some of the players who did not suit up for the preseason game at Atlanta made it back to the practice field, while some others were missing. It seemed like the positives of the players returning was negated by those leaving, though some absences are not considered to be anything serious. As a reminder, Ty Warren is on IR and Nick Kaczur will be out for an extended period of time due to a back injury and the subsequent surgery he had. Here’s a breakdown of who returned, who was out but spotted, and who didn’t even make it to the practice field.
Returning to Practice
- LB Tully Banta-Cain
- LB Gary Guyton
- LB/FB Thomas Williams
- LB Dane Fletcher
- DL Damione Lewis
- CB Leigh Bodden
- OT George Bussey
At Practice but in T-shirts and Shorts Riding Bikes
- TE Aaron Hernandez
- LB Eric Alexander
- OT Mark LeVoir
- WR Darnell Jenkins
- LB Jermaine Cunningham
Absent from Practice
- WR Julian Edelman
- WR Matt Slater
- S Bret Lockett
- S Josh Barrett
There were also some minor roster moves made today. DL Kade Weston was waived, but he was waived on injured status. What that means is that should he clear waivers, the Pats will retain his rights and will place him on their injured reserve list. This was similar to what happened with S Josh Barrett when he was waived by Denver, only the Pats claimed him off the waivers, which is a rare move. It will be interesting to see if Denver reciprocates and claims Kade Weston off of the waiver wire. These types of claims are usually considered no-no’s around the league, though I think the Pats claimed Barrett as a reaction to Josh McDaniel’s signing a few Patriots free agents last offseason when he took over the head coaching job in Denver.
Taking Weston’s place on the roster is S Ross Ventrone, an undrafted rookie who was with the team most of training camp. Both Weston and Ventrone are considered long shots to make the roster.
