If anyone told Patriots fans ahead of the 2025 season that the team would be the AFC representative in the Super Bowl, surely, none would have believed them. It didn't look like that was even a possibility based on the year that began, but their 10-game win streak put a different perspective on what was supposed to be another building block year, resulting in earning the AFC East title and the No. 2 seed.
That raised expectations for what they could accomplish in the postseason, although many were just excited that they made their first playoff appearance since the 2021 season.
Their efforts against the Chargers and the Texans made it look more possible that a Super Bowl run was on the horizon, and with their AFC Championship win over the Broncos, on the road in Denver, it now makes what previously looked like a dream a reality, courtesy of Christian Gonzalez and his game-sealing interception.
Not only that, it was his first interception of the season, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

It's quite a feat for Mike Vrabel in his first year with the Patriots, especially considering the Titans fired him after the 2024 season for not winning enough, but now the Patriots are benefitting from his experience and expertise, with a real chance to shut up the doubters going against either the No. 1 seed Seahawks or the No. 5 seed Rams in Super Bowl LX.
The Patriots continue to defy the odds with a big win over the Broncos to head to the Super Bowl
For much of the 2025 season, there was a lot of talk about the Patriots' schedule being the main reason for their success, but taking down three of the top defenses in the league in the playoffs surely ended that frustrating narrative.
Not only that, but their undefeated streak on the road, going 9-0 including the playoffs, is something no team has ever done in NFL history, further proving they were a much better team than anyone wanted to give them credit for.
They'll need that luck to continue going into the Super Bowl in two weeks, as they could face another one of the top defenses in the league if the Seahawks beat the Rams, or an offensive juggernaut led by the expected MVP, Matthew Stafford.
Considering what they've accomplished already, it doesn't look like either opponent will be too much for this Patriots team. And at the end of the day, it's difficult to be upset about potentially falling short since they weren't expected to even sniff the playoffs this year.
But at the same time, the perfectly timed interception by Gonzalez has made it seem like anything is possible, and as the saying goes, they didn't come this far just to get this far.
The stakes are even higher now, and this team now has the potential to make their wildest dreams come true. We'll have to see if they can live up to the new expectations they're facing.
