The Patriots held their second training camp practice of the summer today, so here is a brief recap…

The biggest takeaways I had from what was reported was the return of Jamie Collins, the emotion of Tom Brady and the fact that Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola both look close to returning.

Here is Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald who was at practice:

"The most notable point of practice occurred during that 7-on-7 period when Brady spiked his helmet into the ground following back-to-back incompletions to close down the period. The second thumped into a tennis racket that was being held by an equipment guy at the line of scrimmage, and it was the second straight day Brady hit one of those. Brady was also frustrated by an earlier interception.Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola did a solid five minutes of uphill sprints midway through practice. They both look close."

This is what makes Tom Brady so great.

It’s one thing for him to get upset and spike his helmet into the ground in a postseason game, or even a regular season contest. But Brady is so competitive, and wants to be perfect so bad that he gets this upset about a couple of incompletions in a damn training camp practice in July.

You want to be the best quarterback ever? You have to strive for perfection every single day, whether it is the Super Bowl, a playoff game or just a simple non-padded practice in the summer.

As for Jimmy Garoppolo, it sounds like he had a nice day again, as he and Brady continue to switch off snaps with the starters. Howe said Garoppolo took the starting snaps in 7-on-7’s today, while Brady had 11-on-11’s.

Seeing Jamie Collins back out on the practice field was nice, and it appears everything is A-ok on his end. He was excused from practice yesterday, so I don’t think he has any contract or injury issues he is currently dealing with.

Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola are still currently on the PUP list, but now more than ever I am extremely confident that they will not only be ready to go for the regular season, but they will come off that list fairly shortly.

Here is the official attendance from Howe:

"WR Julian Edelman (PUP, foot surgery), RB Dion Lewis (PUP, ACL surgery), S Nate Ebner (rugby exemption), G Tre’ Jackson (PUP, knee surgery), Shaq Mason, RT Sebastian Vollmer (PUP), WR Danny Amendola (PUP, knee and ankle surgeries), TE Clay Harbor (PUP), WR Nate Washington, DT Alan Branch (NFI, hip injury)."
