Patriots Fans: Don’t Be Afraid of The Chiefs

Even though the Chiefs completely destroyed the Texans, Patriots fans shouldn’t fear them at all. Here’s why.

Turnovers

Brian Hoyer decided to have the worst game of his career yesterday. The dude was a turnover machine. He had 4 in the first half, 4…what is that? It’s not like they were turnovers because the Chiefs defense made plays, no, they were miserable decisions on Hoyer’s part. Brady won’t make those mistakes. Even after 4 turnovers in 30 minutes of play, the Chiefs were only up 13-0. So, their offense wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire either. I would put the Patriots defense and the Texans defense about even, even though the Texans have JJ Watt (yawn), who was a non-factor the entire time yesterday, even on offense.  The Patriots might turn the ball over, but not at a clip Hoyer was.

Scheme

The Texans ran a pretty awful scheme: run the ball twice for 3-5 yards and then throw. They had no trickery, no special set ups or anything. They just ran the ball right at the Chiefs and they were ready for it. Brady will put the offense in the positions they need to be to win, they will call up plays that will exploit the Chiefs weaknesses…and they have a better special teams unit (excluding the Eagles blunder)

Roster Talent

The Texans have a few star players, but everyone who isn’t JJ Watt or DeAndre Hopkins is pretty average. Outside of those 2 players, I don’t know if there is anyone on their roster I would want over the roster we already have (when healthy). Edelman is coming back, Amendola is coming back, Vollmer is coming back, Chung is coming back…do you see a pattern here? We are getting everyone we so sorely missed back for the playoffs. Which is amazing. The Chiefs lost Maclin for an unknown amount of time, but when he went down he didn’t come back. The Chiefs are a solidly build team, their defense has a lot of play makers, but Houston went down again yesterday. He did come back, but that knee is still bothering him.

I think if the players the Patriots get back can seamlessly get blend together they should beat the Chiefs. As long as there is little to no rust I like their chances of winning. If they have a bit of growing pains or are just out of sync it could be a long day…
