Buffalo Bills will work out USC Trojans duo

The Buffalo Bills are bringing in every potential franchise quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft in for a work out, and James Walker of ESPN’s AFC East blog is reporting that USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley is the next player on their list to work out. Per a source close to Walker, the Bills will work out Barkley and his USC teammate at receiver Robert Woods on Monday.

The Bills are fully expected to draft a quarterback in one of the first two rounds this year, and it sounds like they will be taking one with the eighth pick (unless if it is Ryan Nassib or another QB they can nab in the second round or even later). They have recently worked out mobile quarterbacks E.J. Manuel and Geno Smith, and I’m sure they would love to land Geno with the eighth pick.

Barkley is viewed by some as the best quarterback in this class once again, because he has the make-up of a franchise QB with his poise and intangibles. He is also the most accurate quarterback in this draft and thus could have a great deal of success if utilized in a West Coast Offense. That’s not something the Bills run, but I’m sure they would be willing to mold a scheme around the QB (that’s the best way to go about business anyway) if they view Barkley as their best option.

As for Woods, he is another talented prospect who fell too far after once being viewed as a sure-fire first-rounder. If the Bills nab a QB in the first round, then they would love to have Woods fall to them in the second. He is excellent on short and intermediate routes and can be a very good No. 2 possession guy at the pro level. Is a Woods, Barkley reunion possible? That’s going to be an interesting storyline for some USC fans heading into the draft.

Barkley was recently mocked to the Buffalo Bills in the first round of Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks’s 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
