Eliot Wolf said he wanted to add weapons to the Patriots offense. It was a priority stemming back to the start of free agency, but his lack of significant moves disappointed most fans.

Now that they have their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, Wolf emphasized the need for weapons even more. He finally delivered with the selection of receiver Javon Baker in Round 4, double-dipping early at the position to continue building a solid offensive roster.

He's a fast and reliable pass catcher who steadily improved throughout his time at UCF, with his best season coming in 2023. Through 13 games, Baker recorded 52 receptions for 1,139 yards and seven touchdowns, all while averaging 21.9 yards per catch.

Is that impressive, or is that impressive?

Patriots continue to prioritize the offense with Javon Baker pick in Round 4

Baker's selection was met with rave reviews from those in and outside New England. His college career made him a standout in a deep receiver class, with many believing he would've been off the board a bit earlier than Round 4.

ESPN's Field Yates had a lot of great things to say about the Patriots new receiver, complimenting his work in the red zone which was a weak point of the New England offense in 2023.

“Looking for a big play? Look no further than Javon Baker. … All you’ve got to do is throw the football up to Javon Baker and let him cook. Over the last two years, only Rome Oduzne has more receiving yards on fades or go route concepts. In the red zone, his catch radius is terrific.”

One of the best parts of Baker's addition to the Patriots' receiving corps is his explosiveness and big playmaking ability. Drake Maye is known for having a strong arm and loves to chuck it downfield. Baker allows him to do that as often as he wants, with his excellent ball tracking skills and route running.

What more could fans ask for in a new receiver?
