The Patriots have an absolute embarrassment of riches at cornerback heading into training camp, where obvious cuts should prove hard to find.
From top to bottom, the New England Patriots have the best group of cornerbacks in the NFL… and it’s not even that close.
ClutchPoints’ Skyler Carlin has the tandem of Stephon Gilmore and Jason McCourty listed as the No. 2 unit in the league entering the new season, just behind the Jaguars’ Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. Carlin asserts you could even swap out McCourty for J.C. Jackson, and the duo would still rank second-best in the NFL; that speaks volumes about how potent the top three options are for the Pats at CB.
Amazingly, though, New England is far from top-heavy at the position. Whereas Jacksonville and Dallas – the Nos. 1 and 3 tandems on this list – can’t boast much talent behind their star playmakers on the defensive flanks, the Patriots could lose Gilmore, McCourty, and Jackson for the season… and still probably finish with a secondary that ranks in the upper half of the NFL’s hierarchy come December. That’s how deep this unit is in 2019.
